Automate Your Social Media with These 6 Powerful Tools
If you’re anything like me, posting to your social media accounts is your least favorite marketing task. It’s time-consuming and horribly tedious. I think a lot of bloggers wish they could hire someone to manage my social media activity for them.
Unfortunately, most bloggers and small business owners can’t afford anything quite so lavish. But here’s the good news: you can implement a killer social media marketing strategy without spending hours each day actively monitoring your social media channels.
How? With the power of automation, baby!
Social media automation tools perform a range of tasks that will save you mega time and grow your biz like never before. The main thing they do is post to your social networks automatically according to a schedule of your choosing, so you don’t have to worry about sharing content in real time. It’s almost like having your own social media manager.

The Pinterest Smart Feed gives more visibility to users who pin continuously. I don’t have time for that and I’m sure you don’t either. What’s more, optimal pinning times are often in the middle of the night. No thank you!

If you’re not ready to pay for an Instagram scheduler yet, Planoly is a fantastic free alternative to Tailwind. It doesn’t have a SmartSchedule or Hashtag Finder, but it does post automatically and has a nice drag-and-drop calendar interface.
For Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ scheduling, I use RecurPost. RecurPost is free but has some really cool features usually only offered by premium services. Here are just a few:
Content Library - Allows you to group your posts by subject. For example, you could have a Content Library for blog posts and set it to publish one blog post from your Content Library 3x/week.
Post Recycling - If you run out of new content to share, posts from your Content Libraries will automatically recycle according to your posting schedule on Facebook and Google+.
Post Variations - Unfortunately, Twitter recently changed its policy to ban posting the same tweet more than 1x. But you can create multiple variations of the same tweet quickly in RecurPost. You only have to upload the image to go with your tweets once and then you can add all your variations easily all on the same page.
Optimized Scheduling - Picks the best times for your posts to go out.
Analytics - Gives you insight into which posts receive the most engagement.
PostPlanner offers some variation on all the features of RecurPost, but it’s more than just a social media scheduler.
PostPlanner curates amazing content from the web for you to share with your followers. You can add social feeds from your industry and PostPlanner will pull photos and articles from them. It automatically organizes your feed with the highest performing posts at the top, so you always have plenty to share right at your fingertips.
The best part? PostPlanner is only $3 a month, which is pretty damn great for such a robust system.
You’re an advanced content marketer. You’re at that place in your business where you need a full-on editorial calendar to keep track of all your social media posts and promotions. That’s where CoSchedule comes in.
CoSchedule is nothing short of a content management system for social media. There are two unique features that I think deserve attention:
Drag & Drop Scheduling - Let’s say you’ve scheduled a blog post and all the social media to go with it. Then you realize that you need to delay the post for a few days. Normally, you would have to reschedule the post and reschedule every single social post that goes with it individually. What a pain! Drag and drop scheduling allows you to simply drag the post wherever you want on your editorial calendar and all the social posts that go with it will automatically follow. Genius!
Wordpress Plugin - While CoSchedule can be used with any blogging platform, it’s really designed to work with Wordpress. The CoSchedule plugin means you can schedule your social posts without ever leaving your Wordpress dashboard.
Of course, CoSchedule also comes with a host of other features, like ReQueue (which automatically recycles evergreen content), advanced analytics, and more.

6. Revive Old Post*
Revive Old Post is one of my favorite Wordpress Plugins. It automatically shares posts from your blog archives to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Xing, and/or Tumblr.
It’s completely customizable. You can include or exclude specific posts or categories and set it to only publish posts that are x number of days old. You can set it to publish as often as you want on each platform.
There’s a free version of the plugin and a premium version that costs $75/year. The free version only posts text, so there will be no images to accompany your Tweets if you choose this option.
One study showed that tweets with images get 18% more clicks, 89% more favorites, and 150% more retweets. That’s why I pay for the premium version. There’s such a huge difference in engagement.
As much as I wish there was a single master automation tool I could use for every social media platform, I think it’s a good idea to use separate tools for Pinterest/Instagram and Facebook/Twitter. Pinterest and Instagram are visual platforms, which are very different than message-focused platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
