Meet Anjana
Anjana is a branding and website designer for therapists and the founder of Humming Soul Creative. As her business has evolved, Anjana believed that templates could help her reach more people while still honoring her mission to build websites that reflect each therapist's unique personality and style so they can reach the people who need their care most.
Beginnings
Anjana comes from a design and entrepreneurial legacy, as her mother is a graphic designer who also ran her own business. Later, Anjana would be part of the fast-moving agency world, where she honed her skills and deepened her design practice before moving on and starting her own business.
Soul-crushing grind with dwindling returns
Before launching her own template shop, Anjana had primarily been doing custom work for her therapist clients.
But custom design can often be a lot of upfront work.
For Anjana, this working style became increasingly draining and without the financial payoff. She'd always wanted to create templates, but with a calendar full of custom design projects, needed more time to prioritize it.
Anjana knew how transformative an additional income stream could be for her.
It would allow her to not only take on fewer custom projects and increase her prices but also help her reach a different community of practitioners: early career therapists.
When they are first building their practice, most therapists can't or aren't ready to invest in custom work, leaving this group with very plain design options that don't reflect their personality and individual tastes.
“I saw that a template would be great for those people that aren’t ready to invest and that can just start if they don’t know the ins and outs of their business. They can evolve easily with a template.”
Anjana was familiar with other template shops from following other template creators, including Kate. After reading Kate's content, Anjana knew it was time to create a template shop.
Substance and style
Being the talented designer that Anjana is, she felt confident in the design and branding aspects of creating templates but not necessarily the technical side.
“I wasn’t sure about the behind-the-scenes and how to actually deliver it. The course creation was a big one, too. I had never built a course at all. So, the course that goes along with the templates was a huge part of what I loved about Kate’s course.”
Anjana knew that Kate was a reputable and credible design leader in the world of Squarespace. But even more than that, what she most appreciated about Kate was her no-nonsense approach.
Anjana had taken other programs before throughout her journey as an entrepreneur.
But, these programs were often overwhelming, with massive groups and little interaction or support due to the sheer size of the community.
Whether through the Facebook group, live calls, or emails, Anjana found that Kate is always accessible to students. She was also impressed at how transparent Kate is with her process, never gatekeeping and instead regularly sharing examples from her own work and templates to give students real-life examples they could apply to their work.
A record-breaking launch
After getting her shop up and running, thanks to a strategic partnership with a business coach, their cohosted successful masterclass helped Anjana reach new audiences, and she sold an impressive 10 templates in just 3 days.
Following an exciting launch, Anjana continues moving away from custom design work and is working hard to make templates a primary income stream.
Since being part of Scale with Templates, she's launched a new service customizing existing templates. She hopes to expand her audience to include coaches as another group from the wellness community to support through her templates. Anjana also has plans to explore creating a course.
While Anjana has so many exciting plans of her own on the horizon, she credits some of her continued success to the ongoing support from the incredible Facebook group, including Kate:
“I can’t say enough about the Facebook group because I don’t belong to that many. I have found it to be really helpful because I can just pop in there often and ask questions along the way and feel like I’m not really alone in it.”
